2014 Election Results: Big wins for GOP, pro-gun candidates; gains for background checks

The midterm elections came up in favor of the Republicans with GOP candidates winning a majority in the Senate as well as capturing and maintaining key gubernatorial races while a controversial background check initiative in Washington State was approved by voters. Of the 100 senatorial seats, 36 were up for grabs this Tuesday. Entering the election, the Democrats held a slim 55 to 45 majority with Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) in the driver’s seat. By Wednesday morning, it seems that the new Senate Majority Leader is likely to be Sen.
