Diatomaceous earth has fast become a go-to item on our homestead because of its versatility, ease of use, and the fact that it’s relatively safe for everyone in the family. Food-grade DE is an edible substance of great value, and its uses are myriad in a homestead setting. Food grade diatomaceous earth (DE) is often used in its powdered form, and can be easily purchased as a pure powder (white in color) or mixed with clay (grey in color). In dust form, it is used as an ingredient in insecticides, and can also be purchased in a wettable powder or pressurized liquid which can be used indoors or outdoors (read your labels first, please) against bedbugs, cockroaches, crickets, fleas, spiders, ticks, and other pests.
