Generic picture of the Sun Flaring Usually sunspots fade away when they move off the Earth facing side of the Sun, degrading and disappearing at some point on the farside. Not so sunspot AR1944. After a transit across the far side of the Sun it reappeared, and was redesignated as AR1967. Incredibly it’s back for the third time…and still active. It will be redesignated today or tomorrow, having just popped into view on the far south eastern edge of the Sun disc.
