National Governors at White House: Threats Promises “It Chilled the Room” – 50 Govs Sign Letter Opposing Guard Cuts

The annual National Governors Association (NGA) met in Washington, D.C. on February 22 and 23, 2014. As you’ll read below, Governors Nikki Haley (R-SC) and Rick Perry (R-TX) spoke openly of threats and stern promises coming from Barack Obama if they spoke of spending or cuts to the National Guard. Governor Haley said the “tone” “chilled the room quite a bit.” A letter dated today to Barack Obama, was signed by 50 Governors opposing his National Guard cuts and “aviation capabilities.” What are the cuts to the Guard’s “aviation capabilities?” Hagel also wants to transfer the National Guard’s Apache attack helicopters to active-duty units, and move the Army’s Black Hawk helicopters to the National Guard.
