Around 10 pm on Monday night, someone knocked on the door of Kenneth Byrd’s Lumberton, N.C., home. He answered it to find a man who claimed to have car problems. The man also said he needed water. Then two other men wearing black clothing, ski masks and gloves forced their way into the home and demanded money. Byrd, 67, and his wife Judy, 65, were forced, at gunpoint, to the back of their house to open a safe. Then the three armed men tried to rape Byrd’s 19 year-old granddaughter. Byrd managed to grab a gun and shot all three of the suspects.
