China Launches Unmanned Moon Mission

Brett Smith for redOrbit.com - Your Universe Online On Friday, China launched its first mission intended to travel to the Moon and return intact. While the current mission is unmanned, it does set the stage for the Asian country to put a man on the Moon in the near future. "The first stage of the first return journey test in China's moon probe program has been successful," China’s space agency said after the launch, according to the AFP news agency. A spokesman for the China National Space Administration told the country’s news agency that the craft is expected to travel to a point near the moon before coming back.
