It shows that the Dow has only produced a 49% return over the last ten years, probably not enough to cover even government-admitted inflation. On the other hand, gold, which fell into disrepute for the last couple of years, has returned 399% over this same period. No one knows whether gold will recoup recent losses, although it seems that all the original reasons to own it have only increased in magnitude.
