In 2011, the United States announced that it had added Doku Umarov to its most-wanted Rewards for Justice list, and was offering $5m for information on his whereabouts, today a Kremlin-backed leader of Chechnya has said he has new evidence that a notorious rebel warlord is dead. Mr Kadyrov has based his claim on an intercepted phone call alleged to have taken place between two rebel leaders who spoke about the need to replace Umarov because he was dead.
