Ex-jailer Wins $175,000 Race Discrimination Lawsuit (Picture)

A former Shiawassee County jail guard is suing the county claiming he lost his job because he complained to a local newspaper about racial discrimination at the sheriff's department. Secundino Villarreal filed the lawsuit May 6 in Detroit U.S. District Court after he says he was fired from his job after submitting a letter to the editor with The Argus-Press newspaper in Owosso. MOREHERE Following an agreement this week to dismiss a federal lawsuit, the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff George Braidwood will pay $175,000 to a former corrections officer, according to attorneys representing the plantiff.
