The U.S. Attorney General (AG) is the head of the federal government’s Department of Justice and the chief law enforcement officer of the United States government. On Thursday, April 24, 2014, AG Eric Holder was scheduled to address 42 new police officers at the police academy graduation in Oklahoma City. CBS News says that “Facing a tight schedule and complaints from conservatives,” Holder canceled his speech at the last moment. Todd Ceferatti reports for TPNN, the Tea Party News Network, that the real reason was that “protest organizers called for the new law enforcement officers to place the Attorney General in handcuffs for his wanton disregard for law and order …. Hundreds of citizens were to be joined by law enforcement officials and other irate patriots who still labor under the idea that the Attorney General ought to be held accountable by the law.” Congressman James Lankford (R-Oklahoma), who is running for the U.S. Senate, called Holder’s visit inappropriate given Holder’s “tactics of obfuscation and redirection of blame … his numerous questionable decisions, his unwillingness to cooperate with congressional investigations and his Justice Department’s opacity under this President.” Lankford said Holder “would not be my first choice to stand as this Administration’s example of justice, leadership and integrity” and that “Holder’s action before Congress and his unwillingness to cooperate with our investigations of Operation Fast & Furious, the IRS targeting scandal and numerous other Justice Department boondoggles led the U.
