The Karma of Cruelty

by Elva Thompson Contributor ZenGardner.com Words of Wisdom…. All nature fulfils itself in sacrifice and mutual aid, but man, steward of the planet with dominion over all, has failed in his stewardship and deviates from the Law. He pollutes the planet, uses up its resources in reckless extravagance to satisfy his desires, exploits the animals, hunts and kills them for pleasure, tortures them by vivisection in the name of science and forces the rhythms of nature in factory farming. It is the over-masculinated faculties of intellect, seeing and analyzing the separate parts, that drive man into exploiting the animals and indulging in cruelty for his own advantage. Thus he brutalizes himself and blunts his sensitivity. Sir George Trevelyan…Operation Redemption The Taboo of Tenderness In western society, martial virtues, patriotism, and the violence of war are glorified. Rampant greed for resources are disguised as ‘liberation wars’ and in the fight for’ so called’ freedom, the arse licking media keep up a barrage of fear and terror on our psyche 24/7, impregnating our consciousness into the collective acceptance of unimaginable cruelty as a valid way of achieving our goals. There is a sinister motive behind the constant onslaught of horror on the human mind, a dark soul drive towards the coarsening of human feeling, destruction of tenderness and a plot to brutalize our species. Man is not evolving, he is devolving into a creature with an acutely developed intellect, powerful will and ego drive, with no heart or compassion to hold the balance. He has hardened his heart and become indifferent to the suffering around him, compartmentalised in his compassion…not realising that cruelty is indivisible. Cruelty is indivisible The task of becoming human is to transmute the brutalizing and violent impulses arising from the constant fear based programming of the human mind, and to develop a sacred sympathy with the whole of life and come to terms with the brutal way we treat each other and the animal kingdom. We are all part of the consciousness of the living Earth, and because we are all connected, we all share the spiritually degrading effects of cruelty and, we are all karmically responsible for what is happening in the world because we condone it by our passive acceptance and indifference. We have become the licensed torturers for the rest of creation. The Karma of Cruelty In a holistic sense man’s relationship to the animal kingdom is an issue which has the profoundest significance for the destiny of our species.
