Wisconsin Family Decided To Investigate The Fallout Shelter In Their Backyard And Discovered It Well-Stocked With Survival Supplies

The Zwick family has always known that a Cold War era bunker is in their backyard ever since they moved in the property. But it is not until a decade later after moving in that they decided to investigate it. In 2010, they opened the bunker’s heavy steel hatch… …And climbed down the ladder to explore the 8-foot-by-10-foot chamber that the previous homeowner built as protection for his family in the event of a nuclear attack. They found old military ammunition crates that when opened revealed food, clothing, medical supplies, tools, flashlights, batteries…The items were well-preserved thanks to the airtight containers the supplies were kept in. The previous owner of the shelter packed away candies, raisins, Hershey’s syrup and other sweets – likely as treats to get through the long weeks underground… Tissue papers, candles, a garden hose and a funnel were dozens of items that were stashed in the bunker.
