7.1 Earthquake Just Hit West Coast

A powerful earthquake with preliminary magnitude 7.1 struck the west coast off southern Mexico on Modnay morningt, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor was on the country’s Pacific coast in Mazatan, some 22 miles west-southwest of Tapachula and 140 miles west of Guatemala City. It erupted about 47 miles beneath the surface, the USGS said.
