A powerful earthquake with preliminary magnitude 7.1 struck the west coast off southern Mexico on Modnay morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey and initial reports being filed. Two deaths have been reported, both in Guatemala. The temblor was on the country’s Pacific coast in Mazatan, some 22 miles west-southwest of Tapachula and 140 miles west of Guatemala City.
