A US police officer is in custody after shooting an unarmed man who ran towards police for help after being involved in a car accident. Police say Jonathan Ferrell was shot in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday morning. They say he knocked on a woman's door early in the morning to ask for help after "a serious car accident" but that the woman thought she was being robbed and hit her panic button to notify authorities. CNN reports that when police arrived, Ferrell ran towards them when Officer Randall Kerrick opened fire on him.
