BREAKING: OIL PLATFORM NEAR GRAND ISLE, LOUISIANA, EXPERIENCES BLOWOUT. 44 EVACUATED — LOCAL TV



What officials described as a 'major cloud of gas' surrounded a shallow-water natural gas platform that experienced a blowout on Tuesday morning. The blowout happened about 9:50 a.m. on Hercules Platform No. 265, which is located about 40 miles south and 10 to 15 miles west of Grand Isle, according to the Coast Guard.

By Susan Duclos Due to the $53 million price tag of the Pope Francis' Brazil visit, paid with public funds, protesters clashed with police in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. Protesters lobbed Molotov cocktails and the police responded with tear gas and water cannons. The protests took place near the Rio state governor's palace, where Pope Francis and Brazil's president Dilma Rousseff were meeting on Monday. Protesters were quoted as chanting "Go away Cabral, go away Dilma," while a huge banner read: "Down with the fascist state and its anti-people governments".









al-Qaeda Linked Extremists Holding 200 Hostages As 'Human Shields' In Syria



By Susan Duclos Both Russia Today and The Voice of Russia are reporting that al-Qaeda linked extremists are holding 200 Kurdish hostages in Syria, including women and children, and using them as a "live shield," RT reports and a "human shield," the Voice of Russia reports. Reports show the Russian Foreign Ministry is condemning the actions, stating "Moscow strongly condemns the atrocities of the international terrorist organization in northeastern Syria and the excesses and abuses committed by extremists against peaceful Kurds, who are not involved in any way in the ongoing military-political conflict in Syria" The story is developing and updates will be added below as they become available....... [Update] Over the weekend Syrian Kurd fighters captured a rebel leader, or emir, identified as Abu Musab and in response the al-Qaeda linked militants abducted 500 civilians. The Kurdish fighters agreed to release Abu Musab in exchange for people and did so, but 200 of the civilians are still being held by the extremists.
