6,631 Women Died From Vicodin and Oxycontin Overdose in 2010, Four Times More Than Heroin, Cocaine and Car Crashes Combined - CDC

"These are really troubling numbers... skyrocketing... at rates we have never seen before." Women in the United States are dying from overdoses of prescription painkillers at an alarming rate, with five times more deaths in 2010 than 1999, the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday. A total of 6,631 women died from taking pills like Vicodin and Oxycontin in 2010, four times as many as died from heroin and cocaine combined, said the CDC Vital Signs report.
